I know that you should always keep your knives sharpened because a dull knife hurts more than a sharpened one, so back when people would fight with swords, did they keep their swords sharpened or dull?

Why did fashion change so rapidly in the 20th century, as opposed to previous fashions staying the same * in concept * for so long? Why ditch the layers of shifts/chemises, drawers, stays/corsets, petticoats etc so quickly?
